The coast of Lake Michigan

Matty Weaver is an essayist and habitual road-tripper from Muskegon, Michigan. They hold a Bachelors degree from Grand Valley State University in Creative Writing, where they were co-coordinator of the Student Reading Series, and a Masters of Fine Arts from Alma College.

Their work has been published in The Cuil and Terminal Books, and they were a semi-finalist for the Norman Mailer College Writing Awards for their personal essay, A Train Derailed. They have done interviews about their work on the show Electric Poetry, from local radio station WYCE in Grand Rapids. Links to many of these things can be found on the Published Works page of this website.

In the past, they’ve co-run a independent music venue, Turtle Den, and a community organization, Do-It-Together Grand Rapids, as well as a reading series Words & Coffee, all with friends, and an independent record label, Black Ajah Records, with no one but themselves. They’ve visited every continental U.S. state, sometimes on tour with bands and sometimes for other kinds of fun, and hopefully they’ll see the last two some day.
